Description:
New Catholic Presbytery designed by J. C. Buscall, erected by Snell contracting Co. Blessed and opened, 13 October 1940.
Don:
At this stage of his life, Jack Buscall was completely bed ridden. I can understand him being able to design new buildings, but how he was the photographer in so many photos is beyond my understanding. He did sell post cards with his images on them. Perhaps his descendants are aware of how he managed to do this.
See the additional map image with the location of the Presbytery, as well as the designer's and builder's residence.

This photo is taken at my uncle Herb (known locally as Ken) Maynard's farm on the Katherine Gorge Rd. He was a single guy, grew mainly pineapples and peanuts and beautiful sweet pink grapefruit. He also introduced domestic bees to the Territory. His farm fronted the Katherine River and I often visited him with family or later with my mates.

Image and Description: Julie Pudney
Foreword by Don McKenzie
Julie Pudney, the visionary administrator of the "I Love Darwin️ " Facebook Group, has created a captivating online platform that showcases the vibrant city in all its glory. Launched in November 2022, this group has amassed an impressive membership of over 7K individuals (according to May 2023 statistics), clearly resonating with the community. Prepare to be mesmerized by the abundance of breath-taking photographs that encapsulate the true essence of Darwin, its picturesque landscapes, remarkable architecture, and the warm-hearted locals who proudly call it home.
What truly astounds me is the remarkable influx of potential tourists who actively engage in reading, posting, and seeking basic travel advice about Darwin within Julie's group. It should be mandatory for every Australian Travel Agent to explore this invaluable resource.
I'll refrain from divulging further details about Julie, for this tale carries its weight in gold.
Julie Pudney:
Remembering some of my great Darwin Christmas memories, around 1989. Yes, this is me, many moons ago. I spent many weeks collecting donations to gift to all patients at Darwin Hospital. I was initially advised it was not possible to enter the hospital on Christmas Day just to give out presents. I persisted and found a way in. I joined the Blue Belles for a week and was allowed access as I was with a known charity. It was a load of fun, I still remember many of the donations. Graham Wilson donated heaps of alcohol, Avon donated loads of gift packs, Winnellie Florist donated baskets and gift wrapping, Gina Gamble donated ladies nighties and yes I was allowed to hand out the alcohol to certain patients when a nurse gave the nod. One young man was in hospital with a broken leg, I gave him a bottle of Bundy, he couldn’t believe his luck.
